Step-by-step guide to installing the Meta Pixel on your Shopify store for conversion tracking.
The Meta Pixel lets Facebook track what happens on your website after someone clicks your ad -- purchases, add-to-cart events, page views, and more. Without it, Meta cannot optimize your campaigns for conversions.
Pro tip
If you are using the Facebook & Instagram sales channel on Shopify, your pixel may already be connected through that integration. Check Events Manager before adding a second pixel manually.
After installation, use the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension to browse your store and confirm events are triggering. You should see:
PageView on every page loadViewContent on product pagesAddToCart when adding items to the cartInitiateCheckout at the checkout stepPurchase on the order confirmation pageIf events are missing or showing errors, check that the Pixel ID matches exactly and that no ad blockers are interfering with your test.
Important
Do not install the same Pixel ID twice. Duplicate pixels cause event deduplication issues, which inflates your reported conversions and confuses Meta's algorithm.
Once your pixel is working, consider setting up Conversions API (CAPI) to send server-side events alongside browser events. This dramatically improves tracking accuracy, especially for iOS 14+ users.
